FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 5, 2002
Doster Family Donates Tract to Land Trust The Katawba Valley Land Trust announced today that Judge Robert M. Doster and Mrs. Jean S. Doster of Lancaster have donated a tract of 43.07 acres of land along Camp Creek to the organization. The property includes approximately 2,800 feet of frontage along Camp Creek and is located north of Lancaster at University Drive and Anderson Drive. This is the third parcel of land that the KVLT has received along Camp Creek, an important tributary of Cane Creek and the Catawba River. D. Lindsay Pettus, President of the Land Trust, stated, “Again, Jean and Robert Doster have been most generous to our Lancaster community in their charitable giving through this conservation donation. This action by the Doster family will allow our Land Trust to preserve an important flood plain and continue our efforts to enhance water quality by creating vegetation and tree buffers along our major creeks as they feed into the Catawba River.” The property, which includes a significant amount of flood plain, is heavily wooded. Trees which grow on the property include white oak, southern red oak, yellow poplar, loblolly pine, white pine, and Virginia pine. The land also provides habitat for a variety of bird and animal species. The Katawba Valley Land Trust is a private, non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection of natural resources, open lands, water, historic resources, and vistas of aesthetic value in the Catawba River Valley and surrounding areas. For additional information, please contact D. Lindsay Pettus, President, at (803) 285-9455 or Mark Grier at (803) 286-6275). |
