Grier Family Members Donate Parcel to Land Trust

D. Lindsay Pettus, president of the Katawba Valley Land Trust, announced today that the organization had received a donation of a parcel of land in the City of Lancaster from members of the Grier family. The parcel, to be known as the Marion H. Grier and Pat Hinson Grier Greenspace, will become a part of the Lancaster Greenway Preserve. The donation was made by siblings Sherry E. Brown, Marion H. Grier, Jr., Carla G. Saulisbury, and Michael C. Grier in memory of their parents.

"We are indeed grateful to the Grier family for their generous donation," stated Lindsay Pettus. "This parcel will be a valuable addition to the Lancaster Greenway Preserve and will provide access to Woodland Drive from the Greenway. The land has hardwood trees which remind us of the mature forest which once covered this part of Lancaster County. We appreciate the Grier family's generosity and their foresight in helping to protect and preserve an important part of our natural heritage."

Mark Grier noted, "We are so lucky to have had loving parents who respected nature. This gift is a way of thanking them for the sacrifices they made for us."

The Land Trust will place the Marion H. Grier and Pat Hinson Grier Greenspace under protection and will administer it as part of the Lancaster Greenway Preserve. The Preserve provides a greenway through the City of Lancaster along the flood plains of Cane Creek, Gills Creek, and Bear Creek.

The Katawba Valley Land Trust is a private, non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection of natural resources, open lands, water, historic resources, and vistas of aesthetic value in the Catawba River Valley and surrounding areas.
